Building off of each groups separate proposals for the former Pruitt Igoe site, our studio organized a comprehensive plan for the St. Louis area by working at a site, city, and regional scale. There were many different techniques, strategies, and media involved in the proposal.
This perspective displays a section of that collaborative design which I personally developed further.

I was especially interested in the experience that one would have while moving through the wetland area. This study allowed me to gain a greater understanding of what it would feel like to inhabit the design my partner and I had initially proposed for the competition, as that was similarly a permeable landscape with a recreational function. I wanted the space to be something that would dynamically change with the seasons. I decided on two types of paths which would act as counterpoints to each other. One is light, and twists into a shade structure. The other path is a heavier, darker, grate, which allows grasses, plants, and water to pass through it. Thus, the heavier path merges into and out of the landscape. As the seasons change, the visibility and prominence of each path’s appearance alters with respect to the landscape.

This is the site plan which shows the location of my individual exploration.
